Promotion of Life and Health Sciences for Healthy and Safer Life

For the last half century, our society has been pursuing the development. As a result, the society functions so efficiently in these days, thanks to highly developed science technologies. On the dark side, the developed social system has left us a lot of serious problems in complex with multiple factors affecting our lives far beyond expectation. Among them, upsurge of global population caused a global crisis of food, energy, and environment threatening our lives, especially healthcare.

To overcome the current situation, this research institute has been established in 2004 aiming development of new style of technologies and education for sustainable life and healthcare. So far, the institute has been conducting our research to develop new approaches of medical care to prevent and to eventually cure new threats of infections as well as common diseases caused by multiple factors including genetic factors and/or overtaking of high calorie diet.

What the institute aims are as follows:

  1. To develop new scientific technology contributing to society.
  2. To conduct advances research especially toward preventive medical cares enabling us to live actively and safely.
  3. To cultivate capable researchers with creative and bright ideas by promoting effective evaluation system and competitive environment.
  4. To activate collaboration with the various fields of engineering, humanities, or social sciences based on the competitive and systematic points of view.
  5. To build systematic life sciences oriented toward healthcare and nursing care.
  6. To build the close partnership with local research organizations, medical institutions, and industries.

On the basis of these activities, an independent research center “Health Science Hills” has been established by MEXT (The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) in September, 2008. The center kicked off its research activity directed by Prof. Yasuo Suzuki aiming to prevent the threats of infections as well as lifestyle related diseases.

In addition, our institute initiated researches aiming to create a new support system toward home medical care in collaboration between Chubu University and medical organizations in the local region.

By pursuing the comprehensive and systematic researches, we hope to contribute to the society toward healthy and safer life.

Institute's Basic Reserch Principles

This institute was first organized in June 2004 based on the concept to pioneer a new scientific field of this University. At present, far beyond our expectation, there is growing number of serious problems we are facing in the society. Especially, our health is suffering from lots of health concerns, common diseases, and new type of infections that threaten us more frequently than before due to aging society and complicated social system.

In order to overcome the serious situation, therefore, we aim at newly creating “the biomedical sciences”, which are fused between basic medicine and life sciences, would enable us to establish the advanced system in research and the education of promotion of health, prevention of diseases, and advanced nursing care.

Based on the concept of the preventive medicine, we have been getting the preliminary but promising results for the last three years. In order to further contribute to making our lives higher quality, this institute is conducting the new research projects to develop novel prediction markers including technologies, materials, or drugs to predict age-related diseases caused by multiple environmental stresses beforehand and to prevent them completely.

For these purposes, to efficiently pursue the comprehensive and systematic research, we have established the experimental animal center and started to collaborate with the college of bioscience and biotechnology and the research institute for biological functions in this University that have knowledge and skills for the estimation about safety of foods. I hope these collaborations give us excellent achievements in the near future.
